home again

We rushed from the airport Monday morning to go to M's for a crafts and cookie decorating party. All the kids loved the decorating, the eating of cookies and made some super cute crafts! K and M were so excited to be together after being separated for two weeks that it took some poking to get them to join in with the planned activities. Sugar is a powerful tool though and we have some beautifully decorated cookies to eat tonight.

Yesterday me and K went out to get our first family tree. T and I have never done them for just the two of us and for the first few years we didn't know if K would really get it. This year Christmas is such a big deal there is no way we could skip it. Last night we put the tree up with the decorations we have received over the years and K is so excited... T and I even waited to have dinner till K was in bed so we could have a romantic picnic dinner with just tree light... I missed that glass of wine to totally enjoy the experience, but we still had a great time.

Now we are gearing up for some fun cooking and visiting with family for the next couple days while everyone is home from work etc. And lots of present wrapping late into the night so our girl can wake up to a stellar Christmas morning.

The last bit of Mexico

The 10 day trip to Mexico was fantastic. We perfected the perfect beach day with K and spent lots of great family time together. Our best dinner was on our last night outside the Cancun area. We went to this cool Thai restaraunt that was on the water. Guests got to sit in little huts or tables directly on the water and the server came out with your meals. The food was divine, the atmosphere was awesome and K was an open minded eater that night! Hurrah for small miracles.

The second hotel was a complete flop and so we spent most of our days there luckily only two laughing about the experience. It was in the middle of a jungle and so had beautiful scenery nonetheless. We got to go to Tulum and Coba and check out the ruins. Really really cool. K climbed 150 feet on stairs in Coba to get to the top and we were all rewarded with a spectacular view of the Yucatan Peninsula. The second best meal we had was a lunch in Mayakoba sp? where K got her only mac and cheese of the trip, I had the most incredible tacos and T had fantastic enchiladas with cilantro rice. Yummy. We also saw lots of cool reptiles including tons of iguanas, K spotted a chameleon, saw crocodiles, heard a snake or two and watched beautiful butterflies fly around.

Mexico

Heaven... The travel day was perfect with our rock star traveler. We got to our hotel and quickly tried to meet every kid from 2-5 so we can play.Suprisingly there are a couple of other families here and as T said we are a strong group enjoying our holiday experience to it's fullest. The hotel is decorated for xmas. Even the palm trees have lights around them.Beautiful!

The first night was a full moon and so the hotel set up bonfires on the beach. They set up multiple chairs and brought blankets for everyone so you could watch the moonlight illuminate the ocean. Stunning!

We have spent the last couple days on the beach, digging holes, searching for seashells, playing in the water and decorating sandcastles with our seashell finds. Every morning we start with a walk on the beach, go to an awesome breakfast, and hit the beach for the day. K has been a trooper and takes her nap on the beach allowing me and T to have two hours of coupley time to chat, have lattes and watch the green water. After the nap we clean up and grab dinner. The finals stress is starting to fade.

K has made friends with the hotel pianist and so they play the piano together at night. After dinner last night we got to watch the live band and dance since our naps are so great. K was wearing a twirly dress and we heard her for the first time ever ask to go to sleep after her ice cream from the dancing and dinner adventure. She was asleep in under 2 minutes from brushing so I think she is having an outstanding time.

Caroling!

Last night K and Daddy made me pizza for dinner with no onions the most evil food in the world (at least with this pregnancy). I can smell them from miles away! Our neighbor brought me a huge tupperware of one of my favorite dishes she makes all while I got to take a shower and relax.... I have the best family and friends in the world!!! Gma S called and came by to hang out and so we were all sitting down when the doorbell rang....

We opened it to find carolers from the local high school.... If only I grabbed my camera to catch K's face. It was classic!!!! We bought a cd featuring their xmas music and K requested as a special treat that she listen to it while she fell asleep. This morning 30 minutes after waking up she had figured out how to open the cd player in her room and brought the cd into our room and turned on the music. We are loving the holidays!

Counting down..

Lucky for all of us of K's weird flu bug was gone by Sat morning and we got to watch her ballet recital Saturday morning. Beyond cute... all that pinkness with princess wands, teddy bears and sweet little dances.. The whole group was a bit distracted, but watching them twirl around the room was loads of fun.

Saturday night T and I went up to SF to have dinner and go to a friend's bday at a fun club. They rented out the entire club and so we got to do some fun people watching. It was a nice way to hang out and spend time togetheras most of my weekend was spent studying for finals

And now the countdown has begun until our Mexico adventure. We are leaving Friday first thing for ten days of sunshine, ruin exploring and beach bumming... K is thrilled and because her school closes on the 19th of the month she is going to be home with us until the 5th of January. Lots of Mommy/daughter and family adventures coming our way.

A girl!!!!

Today we went for the ultrasound and were told we have a little girl on the way...

K despite being sick and throwing up this evening just told T "I told you so." She was telling people for weeks up until about a week ago that Mommy had a baby sister in her tummy. And she is right... I do!

The ultrasound prep was not without amusement especially as I drank the water at a lunch with 200 VCs. Crawling out of the Four Seasons and to PAMF was a memorable drive. And as it turns out things have changed since K and they sent me off to the bathroom so they could actually see something on the ultrasound... The baby didn't fully cooperate and so I have to go back because the three hour appointment failed to yield the full details.

A long weekend

K really enjoyed the long weekend... We went up to Sacramento for Thanksgiving day... Really nice especially as when we stopped for breakfast Gma S taught K how to blow bubbles with a straw... K thought that was just awesome! Pictures to come... Seeing all T's family was nice as always and K followed Gma C's sister around everywhere as they look similar... She is really missing her Gma! She loved playing soccer outside with the kids, getting all the cousins to read her stories and talking with everyone.

Friday and Saturday were just nice family days, doing some things around the house, making a dent on xmas shopping at some local shops for K while she was distracted by the other parent, going to the park to enjoy the weather and just being together. All lovely!

Sunday was definitely the big hurrah as we finally went to the Academy of Sciences. We got to watch the penguins feed, see the white alligator and check out their beautiful coral reef display. We saw the bugs 3d movie, but also left a little bit for the next few visits as we became members. Very exciting, the bummer of course was major major crowds. Yuck!

Afterwards we got to wander in the park and went over to the Cliff House for a beautiful lunch and beach time. K even played in the water as it was about 70. The night ended with Tay and her parents coming over for dinner. The girls giggled and giggled until finally being separated at 9:30 or so for bedtime.

And now the sprint to finals has officially begun.

School closes Mommy & K play

On Wednesday K had a day off so we had a Mommy day... Mommy days mean no naps, don't ask why, it has been this way since she was really tiny...

We went out for breakfast in the morning which was really lovely until the rain came... I had planned to wash my car so that of course must have been why it rained, argh! Regardless we figured out ways to keep dry sorta until we met Daddy and Gma S at their work for lunch. K had a great time especially as she got to decorate the Christmas tree at work... Afterwards we headed to the bookstore to meet Tay and finished the day by meeting Pmogi for coffee... It was a nice if not long no napping day for us to catch up.

Candlelight dinners

When I was pregnant with K I made T have candlelight dinners with me pretty much every night... And so he obliged me by sitting chatting and catching up as we ate dinner... My thought was we would never have candlelight dinners again so why not have them every night even if we were just sitting in our sweats after working and going to the gym together.

Last night after gymnastics we sat down for dinner and K requested candles as she loves candlelit meals. We were all sitting at the table together (K is even sitting still and chatting - a rare moment) when I realized no candlelit dinners don't go away, they are just on pause for a bit. Now we had a beautiful little girl dining asking for candle light and it only took three years. The only difference is I didn't go to the gym, T did and we took her to gymnastics after meeting at home. And now we talk about dolls, scooters and eating candy.

I had another doctor's appointment yesterday. The doctor said that hopefully in another month I will feel better. Basically no relief in sight yet, either take the anti nausea/migraine medicine which T filled for me weeks ago that I am refusing or stick it out... So the migraines, nausea and lack of energy continue. The baby still looks really healthy and we are all still excited even though I am threatening to get a calendar out to start marking off the days till my due date. Especially as the Doctor also said I must return to the gym something I haven't done in weeks because I have had NO energy. Basically she told me I must force myself to go no matter what.... Maybe I will get that calendar out.

Sports and more sports

The whirlwind East Coast trip was freezing and crazy as I spent a day in DC, a day in NYC and a day in Boston. Luckily I got to spend some time in one of my favorite places, NYC for a little bit. And when I got home I had the cabbie drive me straight to meet T & K at Stanford women's volleyball Friday night. K loved the tree and the dollies (the cheer/dance group at Stanford) although she didn't understand why the dollies are being called babies by everyone. The dancing and the festivities were great, but she was rather distracted by the presents in Mommy's suitcase. We went for sushi with M&J afterwards where K consumed more edamame than the table combined and loved her late weekend night, which is getting to be quite a theme.

On Sat we went over to some friends for big game where K got to eat cupcakes after being forced to eat turkey burgers. The food battles continue... so hard to get her to eat... cupcakes make things a tiny bit easier. As I told T, luckily we went to women's volleyball on Fri night so we could see Stanford win a sporting event as the football was not quite the same. Pmogi was thrilled with CAL's win when I met her on Sunday. After the party we headed to a Sharks game where K although bothered by the noise loved the shark mascot and being up high watching everything. Especially since Gma S came with us and covered K's ears whenever the noise levels got too high. Gotta love Gmas! K didn't make the drive home and was so excited when she woke up Sunday to find she slept in her daytime clothes.

Sunday M & K hung with Daddy while he had the two girls solo flying around the market and the bookstore. I am so impressed he took on two three year olds solo! Especially as Mommy headed up to the city with Pmogi for a girls day in SF. P & I went to breakfast at Eat's (yummy fruit crepes) and wandered the Marina and Fillmore areas while the sun shone. We got mani/pedis and headed home when the weather turned... K immediately noticed my nails and demanded to know when I went to the spa. Luckily one of her presents included 4-6 bottles of glittery polish so we had a nice mani/pedi session before bed...

Hot, hot, hot

Gma S covered for me and T on Friday night letting us have a glorious date night followed by connecting with some friends for dessert... This time we didn't come home early and so K was sound asleep when we walked in the door...

Saturday we were going down to S&R's party when we realized there was no way to go down there and not hit the beach. After a requisite stop at Bad Ass for coffee (unfortunately I inadvertently gave mine to the seagulls) we went down to the beach where it was 90. The warmest NorCal beach day we have ever had. K loved it and had a great time and finally even put her toes in the freezing cold water... Just when we thought the outing couldn't get any better, an ice cream man came by and we bought her a pineapple fruit bar that was consumed in under five minutes. The beach was fantastic, but it was made better by an awesome party.

K was thrilled to follow R around for the night and a few times I noticed she almost was stepped on as she was shadowing him so closely. About 40 minutes into the party the power went out on the block because of a fallen tree. I think that made the party even better for K. She ran around with a flashlight chatting with everyone, eating, playing and finally collapsed in our arms at 10pm.

Another nice weekend. It was great to have some hot weather, but now I am missing the last heat wave. When I landed in DC last night the temp was 34. Yuck!

The simple pleasures

We are still happily working through our Halloween candy. K is having one piece a day and sometimes if we are really lucky two, as a result there are lots of candies left. This morning I watched her eat a piece after breakfast and watched the sheer pleasure of her enjoying the sugar. It was actually pretty incredible to see that one tiny Starburst can bring such joy to anyone. The quiet intense happiness that I watched as she had her candy treat was pretty neat to watch.

What a weekend!

K's weekend started perfectly... Friday night we rushed home from school to open a package Mommy sent K from Nordstrom. Two winter twirly skirts. We have been swapping them all weekend but can't take them off. I think we will have to do laundry in the middle of the night when she is not wearing them... Gma S came over and played with K while T and I went out to dinner with S&R.

And on Saturday T took me to get a feel better present at the mall only to find Santa there already... and cookies and hot cocoa. K was thrilled... especially as we went out for dinner in downtown PA and afterwards took K to the Creamery for the first time. She probably thinks she found heaven. We got a couple scoops of ice cream and sat at the bar twirling on the chairs.... How great a restaraunt where you don't have to sit still and they only give you ice cream.

Sunday we went over the hill for our annual holiday photo shoot and met S&R for lunch. K was thrilled to be with both of them, but particularly R. She spent most of the time following him around well everywhere! After we split up we took K to Bad Ass coffee for some playtime as it is a very kid friendly coffee shop with a matted tumbly jumpy area before finally going off to the beach for the pics. K was a superstar and really loved the post photo play time at the beach. We finished what may have been one of the most perfect family days in quite a while at Ristorante Avanti, where K had her first three course kids meal... Who even knew they had prix fixe menus for kids, but K loved it and finished every bite. And who knew Mommy can order soup at every single restaraunt we dine at in an attempt to keep the food down. On the plus side since we ate out this weekend more than we typically do in a month this helped to keep the caloric intake down.

Our girl

At some point after we got home from school last night K turned to me and said Mommy, you know something, I am happy! Ok, insert loads of happiness and warm Mommy feelings when I heard that. I am wondering if the happiness has come from Mommy letting K have one piece of Halloween candy in the morning. We haven't taken the candy away yet so she happily counts it and recounts it and examines all her treasures every morning. She may be missing a few Snickers that I stole, but luckily she hasn't commented yet.

Yesterday in case anyone was wondering whether she was really my girl K looked at me and said "Mommy, my name is the same as Kate Spade" I had no idea she even knew what Kate Spade was (ok she is daughter, but still we never talk about the shop and I don't ever really even take her shopping)... So when she told T he asked what Kate Spade was.... Her response it is a shop and my name is the same! And since I only realized that when someone mentioned it recently I had no idea either.

You better go vote Daddy

T left the house early this morning to be at the polls before they opened. K was in bed chatting with me as he got ready and so he gave her a quick run down of voting and how important it was. K looked at him yelled Barack Obama right? and told him he had to get to the polls fast! For our early bird Daddy that is not a problem. Luckily K and I hung out in bed reading books for another 40 minutes before starting our day.

Last night when T and K were chatting about the President and who should become President K suggested Aunt Stephie would be best. When Tom suggested that was impossible K mentioned that well maybe Aunt Stephie and Cath could do it together.... All part of our daily conversations about our superstars Aunt Stephie and Cath.

Both batteries are now charged

I failed on photos this weekend. Either I forgot the camera or I forgot to check the battery status.... Horrible!

We still celebrated Halloween A LOT! K's school had a great party Friday afternoon which Daddy flew home just in time to make and we all went out trick or treating in the neighborhood before we scooped her up and took her home for more trick or treating at home. She ended the night riding bikes with S and pretty much collapsed in bed from all the festivities. On Sat we went to the Mom's group party where she continued to wear her costume as a pink ballerina kitty although by this time she was bored of the kitty mask... Definitely not bored of the twirly skirt and we finished Saturday with one final party where she got to dance and enjoy the music still in her twirly ballerina skirt until again we made her go home around 9:30. She is going to be sad that these parties are over and now no late Saturday bedtimes at least for a few weeks until the holiday parties begin.

Sunday T and I went out for a morning date. It was fabulous! We went to coffee, out for breakfast and even got a few little errands done. Amazing how much you can do when you don't need to balance on curbs, stop for sticks or rocks and can just get in the car quickly. It was lovely.... K spent the morning with M and I think she had more fun than we did. Impossible, but she definitely came home glowing...

And Sunday night I returned home from a long school group project to a fabulous home cooked dinner from my awesome husband leaving us time to build a fort in the living room. Most of the fun came from the remodels where we added chandeliers, extensions, higher roofs, baby highchairs and of course a chair for K... It was a really nice family evening and nice to have some quiet after lots of parties!

Pumpkins, ice cream and a Mommy day

On Saturday K got to reconnect with S for a couple hours of play. They play together so well now we feel really lucky that they live nearby. And after another stellar ballet class where we decided to be a kitty ballerina wearing our kitty mask throughout class and our nap we went to Los Gatos for ice cream and then on to our friend's pumpkin carving party. They buy about 150 pumpkins and open up their garage for everyone to carve... Last year we took K and she did carve with Daddy, but was much more of an observer... This year however K drew the face, and did most of the carving and cleaning out of pumpkin.... She loved it and we let her stay out till past 10 so she could enjoy the party.

On Sunday we hit the coffee shop together but Daddy and K spent most of the day together so Mommy could try a fun day with a girlfriend... a prenatal massage at Watercourse Way followed by lunch and shopping at Stanford. It was really nice, but unfortunately didn't help me feel better. I thought a day of spa and shopping could cure anything... Obviously not. K was sweet enough to pat my back again as I threw up for the millionth time this morning on our way out the door. And Gma S even came over to play with K on Saturday morning so I could take a nap at 7:30am. I am very lucky to have such a great family.

A couple things

K is being really cute with the concept of the new baby. Today we had her join us for one of the doctor appointments and she was thrilled to go especially as the doctor gave her a lollipop and stickers on her way out the door. As it turns out she was way more excited about the concept of the doctor's appointment versus actually listening to the heartbeat of the baby. I was thrilled to hear that maybe just maybe in a few weeks I might feel semi normal again.

And thankfully I worked from home today as I got to save another bird from MoCa. Hopped of my laptop for lunch around 12:30 only to see feathers everywhere... Depressing that I know how to get to both the day and night rescue shelters for wildlife rescue. That would be the second bird this week... We express no joy over the birds so I am not sure why we continue to get all these presents. T mentioned today's gift was a thank you for letting MoCa have half our bed last night as poor T almost fell off due to our bed piggy.

Yesterday we had an ultrasound for the baby and got to see the little one moving around. Very exciting but very different the second time around as you are more prepared and aware of the whole process. One active little one in there right now.

And today we are wearing our rain boots again. Our rain boots are definitely one of the better Mommy purchases. Last week I met a girlfriend to go check out the maternity wear.... Yes, it is still just downright horrible.... I have no idea why the clothes are SO bad.... Anyway the only exciting purchase were some rainboots for K that haven't left her feet since they arrived. In fact when I gave them to her she slept with them.

A nice weekend

In between the race and Mommy spending the night in SF we had a really good family weekend. On Fri night we met M&J for dinner with K. K loves going out with our friends so she had a great time chatting, playing with toys and as always trying to eat her food like a little monkey.

On Sat morning we met up with C and Fi where the girls spent most of their time scouting out the toy stores in downtown LA. Luckily the Mommies still found time for coffee. Ballet was a huge hit this week because the kids got to pretend to go an animal zoo where they jumped around like little froggies. And last night we went to Tay's house for dinner where the two girls ran around and played like well monkeys until bedtime tore them apart. I didn't get pics of everything, but here are a few of our beautiful girl!

Run like a girl!

A and I did our half marathon yesterday in SF.... It turned out to be a really cool experience. I was really worried as I hadn't done anywhere near the amount of training I hoped because of how ill I was feeling, but it turned out to be as fun as running and walking 13 miles can be. At the finish line we were greeted by guys in tuxs and Tiffany's necklaces as part of completing the race! I am a bit sore today and rather hobbly, but thrilled that I got to try it out. We left for to the city on Saturday went to Union Square to pick our race packets and shop before meeting friends for a really fun dinner at Slow Club in Potrero. It was a really nice restaraunt with great ambiance. We spent the night with our friends and left for muni at 5:45am, which was not so fun. After the race which took us all over the city we stumbled home for breakfast at a neighborhood place followed by awesome coffee from a roasting co next door. All very yummy!

Mommy weekend

T took a mancation this weekend.... 73 holes of golf over a day and a half and lots of fun with friends. K and Mommy hung at home cleaned closets, toy areas, got ready for winter and did some regular routines like the farmers market, hung with Gma S, and of course ballet with our fancy new ballet slippers. It turned out to be rather mellow, but nice. K even gave me the honor of letting me pick what she wore yesterday... She mentioned "I know mommy you never get to pick what I wear so you can choose today."

When we met up mid-afternoon yesterday for a lunch with friends I experienced one of those wow K is really growing up moments. All the folks with kids at the lunch had pre/early teenage kids and they had all been tasked with watching K and making sure she was happy. One of the kids was a big girl K adored and had recently had dinner with while we were in NYC so she was thrilled to be following the big kids around and just playing... And for the first time ever she got to go outside without us. After lunch the kids wanted to go to the park and even though we tried to get K to hang with the adults she wasn't too into the idea. So since the home was in a gated community K got to go off with the big kids to walk down the block to the park. She was thrilled to leave without a true adult. T and I were a bit hesitant, but it was amazing to go to a 3+ hour lunch and barely even see her because she was so caught up in hanging with kids, eating at the kids table etc. The kids left with three cell phones and the parents holding our phones close to us in case we got a call. Needless to say they returned and had a great time, although they mentioned the walk took a really long time. I can imagine they were a bit shocked by the speed of a 3 year old, but they were all such great kids that it worked out really well.

The debate

I had class on Tuesday night so T and K were watching the debates.... Here is how it went....

K: Is that Barack Obama.
T: Yes
K: Is that Barack Obama.
T: No, that is John Mccain
K: Is that Barack Obama.
T: No that is Tom Brokaw
K: That is impossible, you are Tom, let's just call him Brokaw
T: Let's go get that bath

Doctor Mommy

As I mentioned K has been very forgiving and creative in ways she can still play with Mommy even in my morning laziness due to my fear that any movement will make the throbbing head, nausea etc. worse.

This morning we played one of her favorite games.... bring her animals and dollies to the doctor. Today Deery deer came. She explains the problem... he fell off a tree trunk and then Mommy the doctor looks at the injuries. Today's diagnosis: three of the deer's hooves were hurt from the fall. We decided on a salve and fresh bandages three times a day. She took him home to her room and quickly returned with the next patient. Crash!

Crash has been renamed her trouble horse. She received him last Christmas from S&R and he sleeps on her bed nightly sometimes right next to her blankie also a gift from S&R. Anyway so this guy keeps her up at night, prevents her and her dollies from sleeping and well just does all sorts of things.... As she mentioned to me this morning he is on time out every morning because he hits her babies. She was quite exasperated as she explained that she keeps telling him she has just TOO many children to take care of and he really can't hit her babies. It is just too much work. I wonder how we got so many children in the first place.... Anyway, back to the problem at hand. Crash had hurt his head in a fall. A quick cleaning, special medicine, I am sure you are getting the picture and Crash is now good as new, hopefully he will get off those time outs soon.

My helpers continue to rock

T continues to be awesome and cleaned the whole house over the weekend and made lasagna from scratch last night.... K continues to be so lovey with back patting and trying really hard to be patient as we find nice mellow activities to do. Today when she came into our room she looked at me and said "so baby is making you feel yucky again huh" Indeed!

Gma S covered for us on Sat night and T and I went out for our first date just the two of us in months. It was really fun to go down to Palo Alto for dinner and wander around afterwards. A very pre K evening as that used to be part of the weekend ritual. Had a great meal at Osteria and lots of fun just wandering together.

K started ballet on Sat... Very cute to see her twirling with wands and dancing with teddy bears.

Sunday we continued our playdate trades with M and her family and hosted M for the farmers market, bookstore and coffee shop ritual. K introduced M to all the farmers and the two of them danced to the music and sampled the entire market. Really sweet!

The best helpers

T has been picking up lots and lots of slack at the house as I basically lay around resting up so that I have enough energy to make it to work and school.... which has been awesome, but I am sure really really tiring for him. K and Mommy have been served all sorts of yummy breakfast picnics in bed... which K is really enjoying although I think she could use a little more excitement from Mommy well with everything. T has even been going into work late everyday, which normally would kill him as he really wants to be in the office early, but never a complaint. Basically everyday he has done whatever possible to help get through the day which is SO appreciated!

K has also been awesome! At first the throwing up made her really really nervous. Today however she told me after I threw up for the first time that she had decided to pat my back whenever I was throwing up to help me. And so when I threw up for the second time of the morning she did run over and pat my back while suggesting we go back inside as she wasn't sure how we could drive to school.

Last week when I came home from school rather nauseous she was kind enough to lay out the rules of where exactly I could be sick. Not near her blankie, any of her toys, on her bed or on her toy trunk. If I am sick it must be in her bathroom, yes she was willing to share her bathroom, but I could not throw up in the floor... from a practical reason she pointed out she might step in it and well her feet would smell funny.

A great morning

This morning we told K that she is going to be a big sister next spring. She was and is giggly with excitement. She reminded us we are going to need lots of things for the baby, particularly a car seat with a handle to carry the baby. (I am sure she is excited about all the potential toys for her babies.) She also told us all the things she wants to do with the baby but mainly she wants to laugh with the baby. When we got to school she immediately told everyone so lots of warm wishes.... and as I left for work she told me to "have fun with the baby"

Now finally she understands why mommy spends any free time laying around sick. The other day when I came home from the East Coast and she found out I was still sick she told me "Mommy, I hope you feel better someday" I hope I do too. The last month has been horrible as I am so sick. I am looking forward to the first trimester ending.

Where's Mommy?

Apparently someone asked K where her Mommy was? K's response: She is NY. Follow on q: What is she doing there? K's response: Buying me presents!

Mommy who

Daddy and K have had a rocking weekend! They went to Eats my favorite breakfast place in the city yesterday and hit the zoo.. K's favorite part of the zoo were the kangaroos although she was bummed not to feed them. And as is fast becoming a tradtion that K loves more than us... a requisite stuffed animal. She got a little tiger (luckily she is not looking for his family, which is what she spent most of our trip to Bali last year with her zoo giraffe. I convinced her not to throw the giraffe in the ocean, that is where she thought his family was living and she was trying to organize a reunion. However we did end up buying two giraffes which she still plays with.) She has talked about the zoo every time we chat and so we will definitely have to return soon.

Today Daddy made them a nice early dinner and promised her a walk into town for an ice cream if she ate her dinner... Heaven. Especially since she got to go to the farmers market, hit the bookstore and play with Gma S this morning while Daddy was golfing.... Tomorrow I am coming home and am going to suprise her with Magnolia cupcakes.... Let's see how they do on the trip. Luckily I also scored the new Madeline book that just came out.... One of her favorite series.

My weekend in NYC was awesome.... Can never ever complain about NYC! The weather was incredible about 80 all weekend and the play, All My Sons was really good. Getting to see the play, Katie Holmes in the theatre and waiting for her afterwards was lots of fun. Suprisingly there were more folks waiting for her after the play than when we saw Julia Roberts on Broadway a couple years ago. K and I also went to the Met to see the recent remodel and the Turner exhibit and wandered the park and the Upper West and East side. I am hoping to see a bit of West Village and the Meatpacking district before heading home, but I am working tomorrow so not sure if I will get more than lunch in.

Stayed at the Hudson which is a beautiful hip hotel with great views from the Terrace and the restaraunt. Their bar is definitely one of the coolest bars I have ever been in with the most awesome drinks, which is how I initially discovered the hotel. Overall I would have to say the small room size make it not a really attractive hotel to return to. Thank goodness we didn't stay here when we came as a family last month.

DC

The work part of the trip has been fantastic.... Today I spent a few hours at some awesome museums.

I started at the Cocoran Gallery of Art which had a really neat exhibition on by Richard Avedon with all these really interesting portraits of folks... Very cool.

The best museum was my second even though it was rather intense... the Holocaust Museum. They did an incredible job displaying things, from peoples stories through a variety of mediums, a train car for visitors to walk through so you could see what the conditions were like of people being taken to the camps, pictures of lots of things better not to describe, a display of hundred of shoes taken from the Jews and given to Germans, a beautiful exhibit on Darfur to remind visitors of today's genocide. My favorite part was of the end... they had created a theatre made completely out of stones from Jerusalem with a tv interviewing survivors... There was a woman that described losing her friend the morning they found out they were liberated, she died en route to get them both water. On her way back she saw an American man who spoke to her in German, he also was a Jew but was there to liberate them and asked that she show him around. Both of them were in their early 20s and the story ended with them getting married and still being married today. It was a really moving museum!

The last museum I went to was the Phillips Collection, which had loads of beautiful Impressionist pieces and the perfect way to end the museum tour. Excited I saw three new museums.

Last night I got to run in Georgetown after my event which was beautiful. And tonight I am hoping for one more run.

I talked to K and Daddy this morning while they were out on their Starbucks adventure. K wanted to know if I had seen any horses and since I all had been doing was working since getting her I told her no horses, but I am going to NY tomorrow and will see loads there. Her response "New York again." Yes, going to NYC for a girly weekend to see Katie Holmes on Broadway with a CA girlfriend. Very excited about the girly weekend ahead.

Cavallo Point

I had a conference earlier this week at Cavallo Point at the Golden Gate. We had hoped to make a family get away out of it, but the work schedules didn't permit. I still had a really nice time as the views are stunning, the rooms are huge and the yoga class in the morning was awesome and a great way to start a day of work! However coming to get K and giving her the flashlight for bedtime that they gave us at check in and sharing an apple was just as fun.

I took a red eye to DC last night... What a hard place to get to, you can be in Europe for the same amount of travel time. Luckily I recouped at Dean & Deluca with watermelon on their patio, reading the entire New York Times at Teaism with a yummy tofu salad and a bit of wandering around Georgetown. I brought all my running stuff so I am looking forward to running around my hotel as the area is really neat and great scenery to distract me... I am going to need it as I finished my day with dinner at the Four Seasons so outside of a bit of walking I don't think I got any real exercise in today. I did pick out the museums I want to visit so that is nice...

Daddy she isn't talking to you

We had an awesome family weekend with lots of lounging, but some really fun moments like checking out our friends B&A's beautiful new home that took years to build, but is stunning and getting to meet their third child who is even more beautiful!

However one of the highlights had to be a wedding we took K to on Saturday. The last few weddings we have attended have not included K as we have been in the wedding parties and thought she wouldn't enjoy being stuck with a nanny while we were off. So Saturday we took K to the first weddding she has been to since being a baby... and she loved it. The wedding was at the Stanford church so beautiful and of course great grounds for running... T was holding K as the priest asked the audience if we will support the couple etc. etc. K who was watching every detail turned to T when he said "we will" and told him in a firm voice. "Daddy, she is not talking to you, why are you talking" of course I was immediately in giggles. There was a 3 hour lag between the wedding and the reception followed by a 3 hour dinner which K handled in style impressing our table and everyone around her.... Mainly because she was very very motivated by the cake... When it came time for the toast K thought they were serving the cake and so she belted out at the top of her lungs from across the room "It is time for CAKE!" Needless to say lots of laughter. She found some other kids to play with and they rocked the dance floor... very sweet to watch them dancing and even allowed us to dance as everytime we tried to dance with K she walked away to hang with the kids. It was really nice and although kept her up way past bedtime a great family affair.

On Sun we met M&J as always a fun time. When I mentioned to K we would be meeting them... Instead of the standard why she asked if we were meeting them "because we haven't seen them in a while and we want to hear how they are." After a moment of silence I said umm exactly....

And finally one last awesome moment was her first extended playdate without us at one of her favorite people in the whole world, Mar, who goes to school with K. We are doing trades every couple weeks since the girls can't get enough of each other and we parents can get a few things done.... As soon as K woke from her nap, we heard her run down the hallway from her room, down the stairs to see if it was really time to go... The girls had way too much fun together.

New York

We were reading a story the other night and the little girl had three choices of places she could live.... When we asked K where she would live she immediately chose NYC. Hmm, wonder why, here are some pictures of K in NYC a couple weeks ago loving life!!! As we left Manhattan we asked her if she liked NYC. She said no, she didn't like NYC SHE LOVED IT!
