Slightly off

Yesterday was a slightly off day for K. Not sure why (maybe the early wake up) but she used the this is mine phrase a lot!

However we still managed to have some fun...

We went over to some friends who have four dogs. K was in heaven, but a bit overwhelmed by their excitement. She also got to feed their fish, visit the parrot and play the drums. I told them if they had a pony in the backyard K would never leave. We had been to the market before going over for brunch and picked the one time when the skies opened to be without our umbrellas. We got drenched and so K being the meticulous one didn't want to be held by either T or me. So she asked for our friend to hold her. It was really funny. They got her a giant frog cookie so she definitely will consider moving in to their place soon.

We also went back to Il Postale with her last night after an afternoon of cleaning.. She was very excited about the andes mints and so she managed our eating of the chocolates.

A mellow day!

Today was not a normal day... but a great day nonetheless:

we went for a walk in the neighborhood and watched birds eat berries, squirrels find hidden snacks and most importantly avoided any slide or play area that had a spider web on it. As a result we did a lot of jumping and running fast!

We also tried a fun soba noodle mushroom soup recipe which K tried. A huge feat as she is not very adventurous with food at the house. We made the whole dinner with K being able to mostly entertain herself with toys. Another huge deal as those baby days where one of us needed to be completely focused on her are leaving.

This morning while T was golfing K and I watched birds play on the floral trees outside a bedroom window. It was a lot of fun, but apparently the dropping flower petals looked like bird poo poo as K kept explaining bird bathroom. MoCa was also quite interested in the birds and K soon spotted her watching them from directly under the trees... She must be in the mood to bring me a gift.

We also made it to the bookstore and for a coffee while T was out and took our hello kitty coloring book. We had a great time coloring and eating our whipped cream. The raisins and egg whites I brought were completely ignored.

Let's hope for another nice family day tomorrow.

on our way home from school

maybe I will kiss you

I asked for a kiss from K this morning as I was heading off for work, but K looked at me and said no - lip gloss. I tried to reassure her - I didn't have lip gloss on, but she wouldn't believe me. Finally after being convinced to check herself I got my good bye kiss!

I needed it after she came into our bedroom and said MOMMY up shower. Mommy up shower. I wonder who put her up to that? She went on to tell me that she had been up since 6. T and K are definitely going to be teeing off early in a few years while I get to sleep in to 7 or some crazy late time like that.

We normally have candlelight with our dinners and K really really enjoys them. She reminds us on days we forget. This morning she requested we have candlelight at breakfast. So we had a nice romantic bowl of cereal together this morning!

Finally .... getting to buy a baby!

beach fun..

I love the park! (two park visits this weekend)

I could get used to three day weekends

This weekend was pmogi and mmogi's bdays... So we had a great time making crepes for breakfast (yummy) and taking them to HMB for lunch at the Ritz with some awesome ocean time on Saturday. The weather was great! We also made a nice dinner for them on Sunday night and I made profiteroles for the first time ever. Pmogi is a Parisian cafe fan so it was a perfect way to try some new recipes.

We had the mommy's bday party. K loved the ponies and spent most of her time on the horses, but also checked out the train, the jumper and peeked at the goats. We sang happy bday to all the kids and K was able to blow out her bday candle!

I met some of the mommy's on Monday for some park time and K spent at least an hour and a half on the swings. I had to take her off to eat, but it was rather sad as she clung to the swings crying.

We also met our friends K/J at Keplers and K spent some time arranging the chairs and picking out all the books she already has at home at the bookstore. For some reason everytime we go to a bookstore she carries around all the books she is familiar with and tells us they her favorite and she has them at home.

We met our friends M/J for lunch on Sunday, but due to the mommy's party, the afternoon bday celebration and D/J's engagement part on Saturday we ended up having one sleepy girl who barely had the energy to open her bday present. She spent most of yesterday morning playing with her horse. She found a spider in the house and so both her and the horse kept saying bye bye to the itsy bitsy spider.

Last night we went to D/J's for dinner, but somehow K ended up throwing up. Not sure if she ate too fast or what. Luckily she seems to be doing better, but we all have a cold.

The weekend went way too fast and ended up being a bit too busy, but we had a great time.

busy reading

No need to feel guilty

Yesterday on the way home from school K requested an ice cream treat. It had been a number of months since we had an ice cream treat and since it would be impossible to get back in the car after dinner ... we decided to let her eat ice cream before dinner. She loved it. We went to Rick's in Palo Alto and they had an ice cream flavor - tiger tail which sounded exciting. K of course wanted tiger tail (orange ice cream with chocolate) but as the three of us were sharing and I am not sure she was really interested in orange ice cream I went with a tried and tested flavor (cashew praline) and tried to rename it as bunny bump. No luck... She kept looking at it and saying not bunny bump. Regardless she enjoyed it immensely.

I felt a bit guilty about the pre dinner treat even though she ate a great dinner until this morning. We had her two year check up and she is doing great. No need for a shot (as we needed an extra month from the last booster) and even better she won't need shots for Bali or Singapore. It was neat to see her become a big girl - using the big girl scale, big girl measuring tape etc. No baby left. It is nice to know that we are doing ok with our girl... an occasional ice cream is ok.

Stunning

Today I put K's hair up for school. She is not a fan of her hair up so I made a big deal of it and told her she looked stunning (she did) and to go show Daddy. Daddy told her she looked beautiful, but K looked at him and said no stunning. I guess stunning sounds better than beautiful. Later on he mentioned that she looked pretty .. once again she looked at him and she said no stunning.

We had a nice V day lunch today... we went to Tamarine (yummy) and had such a fun time as it had been a few weeks since we had gotten a chance to hang out. It was really nice. Normally we don't celebrate V day, but a nice lunch seemed like a great easy way to enjoy the day.

V day.

MoCa was worried I wouldn’t get anything for Valentines Day and wanted to make sure that she gave me something…. So after coming back from the gym this morning… I found a wonderful present in my front room…. A present only a cat can bring…

T told K to say Happy Valentines Day when they came to wake me up this morning. K was amazing and gave me 8-9 kisses and hugs saying Happy V Day. The best part of my day. It was fantastic.

K is back on Santa. She took her blanket to the North Pole this morning and also saved her water for Santa. She keeps telling me he will be coming next year, but she plans to wait for him.

Getting ready for school.

party... fun...

We had a fantastic weekend as a family… Unfortunately the rain didn’t permit T to golf on Sat so he ended up coming home to hang with me and K. We headed to Valley Fair (where do you take K on a rainy day) and let her run around and play in the play area. We also let her get a bday whipped cream and sang her happy bday. She loved loved it! It also gave her the rest she needed for her party.

The party was a ton of fun. We had a small group of friends and family over (14 or so) to celebrate. We went with a Greek menu (really fun to try to make a new cuisine – we love Mediterranean food, made a cake with a whipped cream frosting and made some more K friendly foods like cantaloupe and macaroni and cheese. She loved opening her presents, trying on her clothes, playing with her toys, new train and visiting with some of her favorite people… Unfortunately she had a minor cold and so yesterday we bummed around the house to try and get her better. The only bummer was that the PB kids rocking horse I tried to buy was on backorder and so we couldn’t get any really big horse presents (she got two stuffed horses from SR, which she loved and a horse calendar from pmogi), however she determined that she didn’t have enough horse presents and so she kept looking in the boxes – no horse presents? She only kept her party dress on for a few minutes, but insisted on wearing her pajamas to the party. She had a great time and now is waiting for Santa to come.

K's bday

K's favorite thing to do this week - put on pajamas

K goose a year ago.

Here are a few pictures of K the weekend she turned one. in Berkeley and at the local farmers market. We took her to Berkeley with the family to hang out at the botanical gardens and in Rockridge. The weekend before she was born we had done the same thing to celebrate the mogi bdays and so it was fun to include K on the adventure. She had been walking for a few months and so she spent most of her time exploring.

Going to see Gma!

We were chatting about one of K's friends flying on an airplane to go to the ocean (Baja) and asked K if she would like to fly. She looked at us very solemnly and said yes - fly airplane GrandmaEngland... We have booked our tickets.... We are planning London for 5 days, Paris for 4, Edinburgh for 3 nights and a night or two at http://www.clivedenhouse.co.uk/ (this is where T stayed for a couple semesters in University. It used to be the overseas campus for the school and has since been converted to a hotel.) It should be neat. Last year when we were in Hawaii we took K to the Maui Ritz as we stayed there for our honeymoon. We have a bunch of photos of her in the same places we took pictures. It is really neat to take her places we experienced as a couple or by ourselves....

bday excitement continues

K was telling everyone today that she is almost two, birthday Saturday. Coincidentally the bear that she was pushing in a swing also turns two on Saturday... some pictures of our girl a few minutes after she was born.

pics soon...

Sorry no pics lately. I ordered a camera which should be here in the next day or so due to the old one breaking...

tia no tf

Today K went to school and was asked about her weekend - if she saw Grandma, pmogi etc. The teacher quickly told K now remember (aunty en espanol is tia). K immediately heard TF (who is my cat growing up and still lives with my Mom. The teacher kept trying to tell her no Tia is aunty and K kept responding no tia is not tia, but rather TF el gato meow meow while laughing. She then told me hasta manana - I said no hasta luego and she kept responding hasta manana. Quite the joke-teller.

We couldn't get K out of the house yesterday. We had trouble getting her down for her nap due to a very grumpy sleepy girl so we resorted to the drive around town trick. It worked and she napped two plus hours in the car.. Of course she told us she was NOT tired. She got out of her car seat and immediately requested to put on her pajamas. In an attempt to maximize her bumming around day she changed pjs 5 times. Not to worry I found ballerina pjs for her bday. I won't show them to her until after her party. We will never get her in her party dress.

K and I had a nice Sat morning adventure visiting Grandma and playing in downtown Los Altos. When I asked her if she wanted to see Gma she immediately went to the garage door and stood there waiting. I asked about eating breakfast first and she told me no. She will eat at Gmas! T took her on the train in the afternoon and K quite the young girl, held the train ticket in her pocket the entire way. She was still talking about it on Sunday.

Better get to the zoo

The birthday excitement continues... Not sure why K is so excited but she can't wait for her bday. Her present requests include:
kangaroos
gorillas
dinosaurs
dogs
frogs
Not sure I am going to find these toys at Pottery Barn kids or any other toy store so I better figure out a way to become associated with a zoo, farm or anthropological dig.

Over the last few weeks K has become very interested in chatting about friends and family. She talks about our friends S &R constantly and frequently says good night to them. Yesterday when she woke up she said I love you S and R too. She was wearing my favorite elmo pjs this morning and decided that R was next to elmo on her pjs. Today when she got to school she immediately started telling teacher N about S.

She also spends a lot of time talking about pmogi and my mom, her Aunt J and Grandma C. The last few days everytime we get in the car she asks me if we can go pick up grandma C at the airport. She misses her a lot. Luckily we will we going to visit her (as soon as I buy those tickets) as part of our Europe adventure and she will be returning to the US in April. Whenever we talk about her bday she lists everyone she wants to come very enthusiastically.

Today she took a bear to school. Pmogi did you know the bear you got K at Harrods is a moose. Sometimes it is a bear, but today it was a moose that had to go to school. He had to sit next to K when we got to the table and so mommy sat across from K.

Helping Mommy

Today K noticed I didn't close the door to where the washer and dryer are... So she offered to help me by saying gracias and closing the doors behind me. She put her milk on the counter and while doing it said gracias.

After picking out her outfit for the day I suggested a sweater that she normally loves to wear, but never matches her outfit. Today we put it on and she decided it wasn't going to work so we removed it. K quickly hung it on Anna's stroller and said gracias. I guess she is making sure I don't forget to say thank you to her. She is also very aware when she is doing things that she knows helps Mommy.

Gracias K goose for being you!

Last night on the way home we were picking up some things at the dry cleaner when she noticed restaraunts... She quickly started requesting we go out to dinner. We were quickly distracted by thinking about Grandma and so we decided Grandma must come over. Of course she did and spent 40 minutes with K running fast and going round and round in circles. As she was leaving and we were heading for our walk K shrieked GOOD NIGHT GMA! It made me remember when she was younger and she would be late on the greeting to someone and not say hi until they had left or bye until they were to far away to hear Ks little voice. No issue with gma missing K's good night.
