bummer

K results show that she is anemic. We are waiting for the rest of the tests before we proceed.

weekend

A whirlwind of a weekend. Aunt J came over and visited on Friday night for dinner. She brought K these beautiful animal puppets that K demanded to play with first thing Sat morning before she was even out of bed. On Sat morning K also told me that she wouldn’t put on a diaper but only underwear. So since we have been letting her drive the process I put on her dora underwear. She was fantastic about making it and did really well but did switch to diapers mid day. Sunday we had the same experience – no accidents but when we left the house we had to put on a diaper. We promised that if she does well this week she can skip them next week at the farmers market. Today I drove her to school with no diaper and lots of clothes so we can work really hard on the potty. Let’s see what happens this week at school. N was very excited and has done this a million times so it will be interesting to hear the report tonight when we pick her up. Fingers crossed!

On Sat Pmogi and I headed to Santa Cruz for pedicures, manicures hair appts, shopping and breakfast. It was really nice (T golfed with R in the morning and so we met up) with SR for lunch and dinner. On Sunday we took K for our standard coffee shop and farmers market run. My sister and I had gotten concert tickets for my mom to see Ravi Shankar and so we headed up to Berkeley for lunch at Olivetos (yummy), ice cream at Icis, a visit to the Rose Gardens and some shopping and dinner on 4th street. It was a great weekend and the concert was really fun.

bathtime fun! horse love.

A brave little girl

Our doctor ordered some blood tests for K so we could all make sure the interest in paper wasn't a deficiency of some sort... The first test was horrible (before our Europe trip)- two folks holding her down while I held her arms and legs. She screamed a lot! So when we needed to do a second round because she came back slightly anemic I thought about giving the responsibility to T. I decided today to just take her after all the procrastinating I could handle. As soon as we got there she asked to sit on my lap and we chatted for about 30 minutes. When it was her turn (I had already explained the process) two folks came over again... And our amazing little girl didn't cry at all. Instead she sat and watched while I sang her Mary had a little lamb at her request. At one point she pushed her face into mine and stayed there but she sat and watched the whole process. A huge relief to have the test out of the way. I hope everything comes back ok. Ice cream treats for all! She loved the stickers she received and so they are now all over my car and the bear that went with her.

Gma is back

T's mom returned last night and K couldn't be happier. When she saw her in the hall this morning she flew out of our bed where she was drinking milk so she could hang with GMA! Last night I had them pick her up from school as a suprise and she ran around screaming and hollering! As daddy said the dangerous duo are back together. Today I tried to sit down at the breakfast table next to the two of them and K asked me to move way far away so she could be near gma. She is already wearing some of her presents and we are going to hang the beautiful Venetian mask in her room this weekend.

amazing...

Saturday was incredible in NYC. I went to the Ritz for breakfast, wandered the park (it was almost 80), shopped on Madison, had lunch at Isabellas (on the upper west side where T and I had a great lunch last year while K napped in her stroller) and visited the Frick Collection. I am trying to figure out when we can spend a summer there… I am not sure T is so crazy with the idea. Too close to daily shopping and too far from daily golf…

It was fantastic to be home on Sun! K gave me a few extra snuggles and is letting me kiss her more.. Eek! We took her to the coffee shop in town and then T took her to the market as I had my first gmat prep course. We met friends at the woodside bakery and K enjoyed her orange dainty again… We finished with a great dinner at my mom’s visiting family in town. K was pooped at the end of the day, but as always a trooper with all our adventures. Her favorite part of the day was seeing horses on 280 and asked to see cows this morning on her way to school. Apparently they can be seen from the left side of our car. Off to look for horses, cows and more snuggles from the goose.

What a week!

Last Sunday I took K to Stanford's community day where we met T & D. K loved it as she got to ride horses, take a barn tour, visit the polo horses and got to touch her first full sized horse. She also got to check out the children's area where she saw lion dancers, petted a few dogs, and saw a high school choir. Everytime the choir stopped singing she told me - mommy one more song is coming up. It was really fun!

DC was great minus the horrible weather and horrible horrible flights. The weather caused a number of delays and a lot of turbulence. My friend R came and met me so we had a great time going to Dupont Circle, Georgetown and the National Portrait Gallery. It was a really great time even though it was shortened due to my flight delay and work schedule being pretty firm. One of the nights events was at the Kennedy Center rooftop terrace. It was so windy that they had the terrace closed for most of the event.

NYC is awesome. I leave tomorrow evening, but the shopping, the restaraunts and the weather have been amazing. I met my girlfriend K and we went to an awesome cuban restaraunt with fantastic mango martinis. I met her friends last night and went to a few more bars and restaraunts in SoHo which turned out to be a lot of fun. I also spent a lot of time shopping in SoHo and on Madison Avenue. I found a couple sample sales ---- awesome, went to a ton of great boutiques, read a nice book and enjoyed the weather. Tomorrow I am going to visit the park, do some shopping on Madison and go to Sarabeths. My favorite part of the trip was exploring the meat packing district. A lot of neat shops are opening up and they already have some great places. I decided to check out the bumble and bumble and found out they have a great cafe that overlooks the hudson where I had the most amazing smoothie. It was really fun.

I have missed K a lot, but have kept pretty busy with work and really taken advantage of all you can do when you are by yourself. We have been chatting every day and I even got to sing her to sleep one night which was neat. She is starting to ask that I come home when we chat on the phone so Sunday will be awesome. I went to FAO Schwarz and got her some great horses and found her a neat elmo shirt (since she loves the elmo pjs so). She is excited about her presents. T took her for pizza and ice cream and over to spend some time with family in town so she has had a ball. It will be nice to be back together.

ready for summer

I am ready for summer, but otherwise excited about the weekend.... T is in a golf tournament so K and I get two mornings of exciting Mommy and baby adventures. Should be fun.

I have to go to DC for work on Sunday night and so T is hanging with K for the week. In addition to DC I decided to add a day and go visit a girlfriend in New York. It is going to be a lot of fun to have a bit of time to shop, but I will miss K goose. This is one of my longest times away from her. Luckily I know she is going to have a great time with Daddy! I think they will be eating pizza every night.

One of my favorite things

I took K a little late to school today and so we spent sometime in her room reading books... I love to read and am so excited that she enjoys it as well. We were able to read about eight books before I finally had to drag us to the car so we could go to school. I really love to read to her and always wish we had more time for it. I find it so neat to see her pick out her favorites and chant some of the sentences back to me. Today's favorire - mama mama I went to town inside outside down. I think it is time to get some new books... as always just looking for an excuse to return to the bookstore even though I think we are already in there once a week.

Another funny thing - this morning when I went to get her up she informed me that her hands were full. I turned on the light and saw she was holding three meow meows, one bow wow and one horsie. She insisted on carrying them over to the changing pad and was quite disappointed when I dropped a couple en route. K still loves her animals - luckily we aren't buying them at the alamring rate of last year when we couldn't leave the toy store without her finding a new favorite. If we left it at the store there were tears and so we bought a few more than we should have.

The trip

More details on the trip.

Paris was better than I expected. I love Paris. Love the shopping, museums, sites, desserts and just wandering around the city. I was really excited to go with K but didn't realize what a good time we would have until we got there. The Parisians are so friendly with kids. There were so many little parks in the city (something I didn't notice before) we could take K to at least one park a day.

One day we were shopping in a really nice area and K noticed candy in a window display. A woman saw her looking at the sweets and came out with a new bag of candy and gave her a piece. We went to an awesome restaraunt where the staff took K back to meet the chefs so she could see their big hats. We had so many experiences of people just going out of their way to help us it was just fantastic.

K loved all the merry go rounds, the trains (metro), had fun at the museums, enjoyed fantastic crepes and really liked the Eiffel Tower. One night after dinner we took her to see it sparkle, which impresses me. She however told me she prefers the non sparkly tower. We will definitely take her back.

Cliveden (outside of London) was awesome. It was a nice break from the cities and so much fun to wander around the grounds and spend time in the country. We also got nice weather when we were there (the minor bummer of the trip was that it was really cold for most of the trip) and so it was great to enjoy the sunshine. Amazing how spoiled we get in CA.

K loved all her beds and was as always a very flexible traveler. We normally stick to a routine when at home, but on our last trip to Europe realized for some reason she was very open to going to bed late and getting up late. Something that never ever works at home. So on this trip we let her stay up late, had late dinners and would get up a bit late. I think her favorite part is sleeping in the same room us. She spent every night that we were home (Gma C covered for us so we could have a number of nights out in London - awesome) chatting to us as we went to bed. We obviously had to turn of the lights and so she would lay there chatting with us for 40 minutes or so about the day. It was hilarious. Poor T who is more of a morning person listened to K and me go back and forth until finally I had to entice her to rest up for tomorrow's boat watching or horse ride.

The other big development was her language. For some reason every time we go on an extended trip I notice she has a huge leap in communication. Her ability to put 5-6 words together in a sentence really improved. It is really cute. She is even getting better about saying hold me instead of hold you. It is cute and sad all at once. She is even more the little girl. Her Spanish is coming along even though it is funny to listen to her because her language is a mixture of Spanish and English wash my manos etc.

A peaceful weekend

We had such a nice weekend at home after being away. It was fantastic to catch up with Gma and PMoGi and spend time with MoCa who is busily trying to bring us a gift. All birds be on alert... there is a kitty on the search for you.

We also went on two easter egg hunts. The one in the neighborhood was great because MoCa tried to come with us but had to keep hiding due to all the kids who wanted to pet her. K loved the chocolate and was so excited to find eggs... she kept saying Mira! Chocolate egg. This morning she found her eggs and as a special treat I told her she could have one if she ate her whole bowl of oatmeal. She decided to skip the treat and put the chocolate in her oatmeal and squealed when she had a chocolate bite of oatmeal. We also had another hunt at MJK house, which was a ton of fun even though K had more fun checking out J's toys.

K has done really well with jet lag although she has been getting up in the night for brief check ins.

Unfortunately Kevin (her little baby) is on the outs. She thinks he tastes funny. Not sure if she really tasted him, but any time we bring him over she looks at him and says no, tastes funny and pushes him away. He has had a traumatic last week or two.

We are back!

We had a fantastic trip! We got back in last night after a hectic day of travel from Paris home... K was a trooper as always even with the woman next to me giving death stares every hour or so because of K's presence.

Cliveden was awesome and super luxurious. Paris was great and we spent a ton of time at the parks which K loved. More details and pictures later.

K is happy to be home now... last night she refused to come in and requested to go to Grandmas house once we got home from the airport. So off they went to jump on the trampoline, visit TF etc. She has been playing with her stroller and is waiting for her friends to dry from their bath. Poor Kevin (her favorite friend of the moment went everywhere with us and is no longer white). He almost didn't make it home as K locked him in the safe - the hotel had to come with the master code on the last night to free him and meow meow. K always plays with the safes, but I didn't think she would be able to lock them in. MoCa is so happy to have us home and is happily following us around.
