Phew!

So K's Sunday cold took a turn for the worse and she was up all night Sunday. I took her to school on Monday only to get a call while in a meeting to pick her up. She came home and within an hour had a fever and was not our little girl. We had a really really hard 24 hours and it was a bummer to not have T home to share the care, but we made it. K slept 11 hours last night and went to school with a big smile on her face (minus the drop off, of course). She did get to watch her first video with me while we waited for the medicine to kick in. (Barney goes to the zoo - a huge favorite in her eyes).

She really misses T and keeps talking about him. When we were driving in the car I heard her say hold dada, love you dada. It was very cute! She thought he was still in bed when I went to get her this morning and ran into the room saying dada bed, but realized dada was still at work. She is now saving blue crayons for him. Normally we only get yellow and she was saving yellow crayons for him on Sunday, but clearly things have changed. It is interesting to do this by myself even though my mom has offered to help and came over last night when K was in bed so I could run errands.

She still loves to brush and so when I gave her the toothbrush with toothpaste and told her to go back and forth she stuck the brush in her mouth and started to move backwards and forwards. I guess you have to be careful what you say.

She is also getting more into Anna, her doll. She looked at Anna and exclaimed "oh no poo poo" and quickly tried to get her underwear off. When she took a peek she decided there was no poo poo and so she told Anna and quickly got her dressed. Anna did everything yesterday including pet moca.

We have also gotten an attachment to this blanket we got as a shower present from SR. She keeps taking it around the house and saying stretch out before laying it out and plopping down. She had to take it in the car today to school. Luckily we got to leave it in the car.

Wish me luck - we are flying to England tomorrow.

A nice Sunday

We had a great Sunday although it was definitely quieter not having T around...

K loved the market and spent some time chatting with twee twee. When he said good bye she asked him for a stamp on her hand - he almost forgot. He provided one for K and mommy. Lucky mom! I even got the standard neck adjustment. K loves the grapes and being able to go to the table and just pick one up at random. We also hit the bookstore and coffee shop before heading home. K was very disappointed to learn that the life size dogs had been purchased. K hung with grandma for the afternoon as I had plans to meet a friend for an artist's open studio, which was a nice break. Unfortunately K and I are both fighting colds. Yuck!

We spent part of the day breaking the grunt request and are transitioning to help please instead of the double grunt. She was really great about it.

The funniest part of the day was her newest expression "yes I do" (Do you want a banana, Do you want me to read you a book were both answered with a "yes I do." Too cute!

I put the two girls to bed tonight (Moca fast asleep on K's changing table and K in bed. I am hoping for good sleep even though the cold is pretty bad.) Tmobro we miss you!

Thanksgiving

We had a wonderful thanksgiving and week. K has been a wonderful mood and given us lots of great sleep and fantastic days. She even started saying love you.... It sounds like vuv u mama vuv u dada! She said vuv you mama for the first time on thanksgiving and love you dada right as T was leaving for the airport tonight. Last Thanksgiving was when she first started to crawl.

We went to Sacramento to see T's family on Thursday and had a great time. We missed the traffic, spent lots of time with family and snuck out for some swing time midway through the day. We even left right at bedtime and had a sleeping baby all the way home (who we transferred to the bed - a huge feat for us)... She was saying hi man to one of the uncles and so we started to tease her about saying peace man.. Of course, now K is walking around saying peace man. It is too funny!

T and I went to Stanford for some trip shopping (nothing purchased), but had a great time enjoying the Friday shopping festivities. We also visited our friends K, M & J. J is a few months younger than K and so we had a wonderful time helping them around their new house while K checked out all Js toys and snacks.

T left for Germany today.... It is my first time home with K by myself for more than a few hours... An adventure ahead.

K finding all her favorite clothes in the folded laundry

Highlights and the new stage

It looks like we are in a new stage… We have gone from caregivers to parents. We have to set more rules, boundaries etc. However now that we are aware of this we are able to deal with outbursts a bit better. We are also able to understand that it is all about K becoming a young woman as tweet wee are favorite clown would say! Not that we like having to set boundaries, but K is all about testing… If anyone has any books about this new age – we are getting ready to do our research.

K played her first game of hide and seek with some kids in our neighborhood this weekend. I went to SF to shop with a friend (had a great time shopping and shopping and shopping) while T stayed to play with K. When I came home she was so happy she sat on my lap and gave me kisses and hugs still far and few between.

Highlights of her weekend:

- Whipped cream at the coffee shop – total bliss.
- Spending time with Grandma (yesterday she missed Grandma so on the way to school she asked if she could call her and if she could come over. Grandma will be over tonight.)
- Trying and loving her first persimmon. I think she has had 5 since her first taste.
- Petting MoCa
- Showing giraffe the fog outside.
- Going to the library and playing with the beads
- Sticking her hand in the water fountain like the big kids
- Drawing and playing with play doh
- Visiting twee twee, eating grapes at the farmers market while dancing like a ballerina, choo choo spotting at the market

Hmmm...

We are entering a different stage. K's teacher talked to me about her independence or lack there of... Turns out we have been doing too much for K and so she is uninterested in feeding herself or doing anything without help. Instead she prefers that an adult do everything for her and gets upset if an adult is not nearby. The teacher has had trouble making lunch or going to the bathroom without complete meltdowns from K. I guess she is getting comfy there as she does that at home. We have tantrums when one of us goes to change or she isn't being held all the time.

So today we did less carrying and more holding hands (not a big hit) and even our first time outs to try and end the paper eating. T pointed out that K is going to be the CEO of a paper company.... She loves to hold it and LOVES to eat it... She can't get enough in her mouth. Must be market analysis. Know your product!!!!

It is weird to have to say no, but we are going to have to learn to identify what are needs and wants and which wants we can fulfill.

The drop offs have not gone well this week, let's hope this adjustment period ends soon...

Sleep is still just ok - we have switched to pat downs, but overall it it just ok...

A fun weekend

We had a great weekend going to Rancho with the mom's group visiting pigs, chickens, ducks, cows, bunnies, goats and sheep. We also spent some time catching up with S who is a couple weeks older than K. K loved spending time at her house playing with her toys etc.

We also went to Santa Cruz for the weekend to visit our friends. K loved going to the beach in the morning and loved chasing their kitties around. She also enjoyed R and followed him around, quite a change from months ago when she was a bit nervous when he would come by. She even went in with S to try and wake him up and kept telling him R up UP UP... When we were over there was a fly in the house and so we were talking about trying to get rid of it. K decided it should go to a spider web and so it kept shrieking at it to go web go web. A lot of things that were unacceptable this weekend were sent to the web.

We also had some friends over and she considered sharing her toys with their son J who is a few months older. She tried.... and even picked out the toys she would share when he arrived, but as soon as he got here it didn't seem like such a good idea.

Drop offs are getting better. 5 of the 6 have been without tears. Yippeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Song titles...

K uses the following titles for songs:

Baa baa (Baa baa black sheep)
IOIOIO (Old McDonald)
Row Row Boat (Row your boat)
Winkle Winkle Star (twinkle twinkle little star)
Meow Meow Pie (three little kittens lost their mittens)

These songs are so good that she snaps (or tries to snap her fingers) while bopping her head... It looks like she is rocking out to the latest hip hop or pop song, but really these songs are much better...

Look out bow wows!

I love to brush!

Home!

K spent most of the weekend at home. She had a hard time leaving the house (lots of toys to get reacquainted with due to her first full week of school). We managed to get her out to the neighorhood park, Grandma's for dinner, to Gelato to share an ice cream and downtown to the bookstore to play with the life size dogs. The pmogi suprise visit allowed us a lot of family visits and so K played at home a lot especially with play doh, which is the favorite toy of the moment.

T and I were driving by a rest that was turned into a sports bar last weekend and commented on the weird change. K was in the backseat and quickly repeated sports pause bar... It was so funny to hear her say it that we laughed most of the way home. This of course excited her and so she spent a lot of lunch Sat saying sports pause bar while waiting for laughter. T mentioned she looked like she was telling her first joke as she was so pleased with us. She is learning to understand the feeling of happy and sad and mentioned that one of the girls at school was sad. I told her the next time she saw a sad kid she should make sure they are ok. We were talking yesterday about someone being sad and I asked her what she should do. She mentioned that she should give them a hug. I left her at school today and she talked about the fact that mommy, daddy and Kaitlin were happy.

K is so concerned about dirt. We sat down at a coffee shop table yesterday - she looked at it and told me it was messy and dirty... When she spilled her o's and sat - she told me it was messy "Mama messy" (I guess I better get cleaning).

Sleep is still rough. We aren't picking her up out of bed and just doing pat downs. Let's hope this passes. Her favorite word is definitely no. Tantrums have begun... Time to get reading about this new phase...

We are still searching for the last few pumpkins leftover from Halloween...

Last night

Last night was wonderful!! K ended up being a pumpkin as we couldn't find any cat or giraffe costumes in her size. She had a great time wandering around and checking out all the pumpkins. She said boo to a lot of folks and got very good at knocking on doors and taking candy out of the bowls. By the end she was taking 3 pieces from each bowl. Today when I dropped her to school she talked about coming home and walking around and looking at pumpkins. For some reason she was scared of the houses with the webs and wouldn't go near them even if they were across the street.

The cutest thing she is doing this week is talking about how beautiful she is. She makes sure I point out that her drawings are beautiful. She also likes to brush her hair and look in the mirror and say beutifulll... It is so great. Yesterday when I picked her up at school she was given a few treats for Halloween including a candy necklace which she had me put on. Once it was on she told me I looked beautiful! Who knew what a great accessory an orange candy necklace could be...

School is still very much a transition. I was hopeful after Monday's great drop off, but I still get tears (and lots of them) when I leave and pick her up. At the end of the day she starts to cry whenever another child is picked up as she wants to go. I can't wait for when it is better. Her sleep has also been bad due to the time change, transition etc and is up everyday by 4:30. Last night she was up 4 times during the night and we couldn't get her down till after 9 with tears.
